LOS ANGELES, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- An overdose of heroin and morphine caused the death of Andre Young Jr., son of U.S. rapper Dr. Dre, the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner says.
Coroner spokesman Larry Dietz confirmed to People magazine on Friday that the death of the 20-year-old Young has officially been ruled an accidental overdose.
"This case has been closed, it's been ruled an accident due to morphine and heroin intoxication," Dietz said.
Paramedics pronounced Young dead at the Woodland Hills, Calif., home of his mother, Jenita Porter, on Aug. 23, 2008.
Young's mother recalled her son had spent the night out partying with friends before returning home, People reported.
A publicist for Dr. Dre said "The Chronic" rapper was deeply grieved by his son's death.
"Dr. Dre is mourning the loss of his son," publicist Lori Earl said in a statement. "Please respect his family's grief and privacy at this time."
