BERGEN, Norway, Jan. 1 (UPI) -- British singer Amy Winehouse may appear in a Norwegian court to appeal drug charges against her and her husband from 2007, a prosecutor says.

Police prosecutor Rudolf Christoffersen said if the "Rehab" star does not appear in court Jan. 12 to appeal the marijuana possession charges from October 2007, the appeal would likely fail, The Times of London said Thursday.

The charges stem from an arrest of Winehouse and her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, in the Norwegian city of Bergen where they allegedly were found in possession of seven grams of marijuana.

Winehouse and Fielder-Civil both paid $429 in fines as a result of the arrest, but have since alleged that mistakes were made by police.

Attorney Ole Kvelstad, who is representing Winehouse in the case, said paying the fine could be construed as a guilty plea by the 25-year-old singer. He told The Times such a guilty plea could pose a problem for Winehouse if the celebrity wished to travel to the United States.
