LOS ANGELES, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Professional dancer Mark Ballas said in Los Angeles that an injury has forced him to pull out of the "Dancing with the Stars" stage tour for a couple of weeks.

People magazine said Ballas made the announcement Saturday night during the "DWTS" performance at the Staples Center.

He reportedly apologized for not being at his best and explained he had suffered a groin injury and needs "a couple of weeks" to heal.

Ballas led Olympic skating champion Kristi Yamaguchi to victory last May during Season 6 of the television dance series.

The pair are now touring with the stage show, which features stars from the TV competition.

Ballas plans to return to "DWTS" when the series returns in March for its eighth season, People.com said.
