'Doubt' up for 5 SAG awards

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- The big-screen adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play "Doubt" was nominated for five Screen Actors Guild awards in Los Angeles Thursday.

The drama, which is set in 1964 at a Catholic church and school in the Bronx, earned a nod for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture, as well as individual mentions for all four of its stars -- Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams and Viola Davis.

Also nominated in the ensemble category are the casts of "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," "Frost/Nixon," "Milk" and "Slumdog Millionaire."

Vying for the award for a male actor in a leading role in a film are Richard Jenkins from "The Visitor," Frank Langella from "Frost/Nixon," Sean Penn from "Milk," Brad Pitt from "Button" and Mickey Rourke from "The Wrestler."

Competing with Streep for the actress in a leading role statuette are Anne Hathaway for "Rachel Getting Married," Angelina Jolie for "Changeling," Melissa Leo for "Frozen River" and Kate Winslet for "Revolutionary Road."

Nominated for the SAG award for an actor in a supporting role are Hoffman, Josh Brolin of "Milk," Robert Downey Jr. of "Tropic Thunder," the late Heath Ledger of "The Dark Knight" and Dev Patel of "Slumdog Millionaire."

Up for the actress in a supporting role honor are Adams and Davis, as well as Penelope Cruz from "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," Taraji P. Henson from "Button" and Kate Winslet from "The Reader."

The SAG awards are to be handed out during a show airing on TNT Jan. 25.
