Del Toro hopeful 'Che' will find audience

NEW YORK, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Puerto Rican actor Benicio Del Toro said his new movie, "Che," should find an audience despite being 4 1/2 hours long and in Spanish.

Del Toro said he is hopeful moviegoers will be drawn to its faithful take on executed Argentine revolutionary Che Guevara, the New York Post reported Sunday.

"I know people will see it eventually because it's done honestly and it will find a way, even if it takes a while on DVD and Blu-ray," Del Toro told the newspaper.

Del Toro and director Steven Soderbergh have been working on "Che" for more than a decade and now it is poised for release in January in its original two parts, "The Argentine" and "Guerrilla." The combined film is currently showing at New York's Ziegfeld Theater for a week as part of an Oscar consideration effort.

The "Traffic" star said he was also hopeful audiences would be intrigued by the story of Guevara despite the historic figure's counterculture image.

"I hope they're willing to at least be interested in him so we get people to go see the movie. I don't know about the United States," Del Toro said.
