Representative Jack Ketsoyan said the "American Pie" actress enrolled at the Promises Treatment Center and her family is hoping to maintain their privacy during her stay, People magazine reported Friday.

"Tara Reid has checked herself into Promises Treatment Center. We appreciate your respect to her and her family's privacy at this time," Ketsoyan said of the 33-year-old actress.

An unidentified friend confirmed Reid had checked into the rehab site of her own accord and with the full support of her family.

"Her friends and family are supportive of her decision," the friend told People. "She checked in herself -- it was her decision."

The magazine said Reid checked into the clinic Tuesday and it remains unclear if she intends on staying at the site through the holiday season.

Fishburne on 'CSI' starts off strong

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- The CBS crime drama "CSI" earned its highest ratings since its season debut this week with the debut of U.S. actor Laurence Fishburne, figures show.

The Hollywood Reporter said Friday the "Matrix" actor's first appearance on the Thursday drama helped "CSI" draw 20.6 million viewers and a 5.7 preliminary rating in the 18-49 adult demographic.

Fishburne has been tabbed to replace "CSI" mainstay William Peterson as the show's lead. Thursday's episode is part of a set of episodes aimed at integrating the veteran movie actor into the successful series while allowing Peterson to slowly exit the show.

The Reporter said the success of the episode helped CBS win every time slot on the night, beating out reruns of ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" and "Private Practice."

"CSI" lead-in, "Survivor," nabbed 13.2 million viewers and a 4.1 preliminary rating in the key 18-49 age group, while "Eleventh Hour" helped CBS take the 10 p.m. slot with 13.4 million viewers and a 3.8 rating.

The ratings for "Hour" marked the freshman's series' best performance to date, the Reporter said.

Michael Jackson to sell gates, glove

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Michael Jackson plans to sell the gates to his Neverland Ranch, one of his white gloves and 2,000 other items at auction in California.

The sale is to be spread over five days in April in Beverly Hills, the BBC reported. Darrell Julien, the auctioneer, said Jackson has "complete control" over the sale.

Julien refused to guess how much the wrought-iron Neverland gates or anything else might fetch.

"We have not put an estimate on the gates yet," he said. "There is a lot of history there."

Some of the proceeds from the sale are to go to Musicares, a non-profit organization.

A Jackson glove went for $35,000 in 2006 and a pair of socks for $15,000 in 2005.

Even the auction catalog is being treated as a moneymaker with a $100 price tag and a limited edition signed by Jackson going for $500.

Jackson was acquitted in 2005 of molesting young boys at the ranch. In November, he signed over the ranch to a real estate company linked to Colony Capital, which loaned him money last year. The deal allows Jackson to continue to live there.

Source: Abdul reviewing 'Idol' contract

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- "American Idol" judge Paula Abdul is reviewing her contact with the popular U.S. TV series after a suicide near her Hollywood home, a source says.

An unidentified source said the pop singer has been talking with "Idol" producers and Fox network officials about her contract for the TV competition and an announcement on the matter should be forthcoming, People.com reported Friday.

"She started talking to Fox about her contract a few weeks ago and they're in the middle of negotiating right now. She's now planning on going back (after this eighth season)," the source said. "Expect an announcement fairly soon once they hammer everything out."

Abdul has lashed out at "Idol" executives after a suspected stalker, identified as Paula Goodspeed, apparently committed suicide outside the pop singer's home last month.

People magazine said Abdul alleges she informed "Idol" officials regarding her concerns about Goodspeed before they allowed the alleged stalker to serve as a fifth-season contestant on "Idol."
