LOS ANGELES, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- U.S. teen actress Kristen Stewart has been cast as rocker Joan Jett in "The Runaways," a film Jett is executive producing, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Music video director Floria Sigismondi penned the script for and is set to direct the movie about the 1970s female teen band that launched the careers of Jett, Lita Ford, Sandy West, Cherie Currie and Jackie Fox.

The entertainment industry trade newspaper said shooting is expected to start next year, depending on Stewart's schedule for making the sequel to her blockbuster vampire flick "Twilight."
