NEW YORK, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Tina Fey's husband says the facial scar the U.S. television star doesn't talk about publicly happened when a stranger slashed her as a child.

"It was in, like, the front yard of her house, and somebody just came up, and she just thought somebody marked her with a pen," the New York Post quoted Fey's husband Jeff Richmond as saying.

Fey, a Pennsylvania native known for starring in and writing for "Saturday Night Live" and "30 Rock," has declined to discuss the scar on her chin and cheek in the past.

"It's impossible to talk about it without somehow seemingly exploiting it," she said.

The Post did not say whether anyone had ever been charged in connection with the slashing, which took place when Fey was 5.
