LAS VEGAS, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- U.S. singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett's backup singer said that recording Buffett songs would be appropriate for her new solo album.
Nadirah Shakoor's "Nod to the Storyteller" features renditions of seven Buffett songs, including "Margaritaville" and "Volcano," with him guesting on two of them.
"I thought his fans would appreciate it," said Shakoor, who polled fellow members of Buffett's Coral Reefer Band as well as fans about what songs she should record. "They seem to like it when I do my solos in the shows and everything.
"He's got a lot of great songs, so it made sense for me to do my versions of them for the album."
Shakoor wrote two originals for "Nod..." and also collaborated with other Coral Reefer members.
The Texas native came to prominence as a member of the hip-hop group Arrested Development and has worked with Madonna, Janet Jackson, Quincy Jones, Paula Abdul, Al Jarreau and Howard Hewitt.
