Bob Hope to be honored with stamp

WASHINGTON, Nov. 24 (UPI) -- U.S. Postmaster General John Potter says legendary entertainer Bob Hope is to be celebrated with a first-class commemorative stamp next spring.

The stamp image was previewed Monday in New York City at Ellis Island.

"The Postal Service is proud to immortalize the achievements of Bob Hope," Potter said in a statement. "He was not only one of our nation's most revered entertainers, but he was also a true American who selflessly dedicated more than half a century of his life to entertaining our men and women serving in uniform overseas -- both in war and peace."

The British-born Hope -- a beloved U.S. radio, film and TV star -- died in 2003, two months shy of his 100th brithday.
