NEW YORK, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Several people who said they couldn't be impartial hearing actor Lillo Brancato's second-degree murder trial were eliminated as potential jurors in New York.

The 32-year-old actor, who starred in the film "A Bronx Tale" and who had a supporting role on TV's "The Sopranos," is accused of killing an off-duty police officer in 2005. He has been charged with second-degree murder and burglary.

Brancato reportedly was unarmed at the time of the incident, however, prosecutors say he was part of a burglary that led to the shooting perpetrated by Steven Armento, who was last month convicted of first-degree murder.

The New York Daily News said Brancato's attorneys plan to attempt to show the burglary never actually took place.

The New York Post said one potential juror was dismissed from service after admitting he was a fan of Brancato's work.

The Post added that not everyone who was considered for the panel and knew the actor liked him.

"There are so many people who would've given their right arm to have the opportunities that he did," observed one woman, who was then excused from serving on the panel.

The Daily News said jury selection is expected to last through the end of this week.
