Winfrey says dogs would be fire priority

CHICAGO, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- TV talk show host Oprah Winfrey said the first thing she would save from her home in Montecito, Calif., in the case of a wildfire are her dogs.

Speaking live during her Chicago broadcast Friday, the "Oprah Winfrey Show" star said if she were facing an advancing wildfire like the ones ravaging parts of Southern California, she feels her first instinct would be to protect her canine friends, The Chicago Tribune said.

"I don't have kids, so the most important thing for me is my dogs," Winfrey said. "And so we already had a plan for getting the dogs out and going to the Four Seasons in Westlake because they take dogs."

A wildfire in California came within two miles of Winfrey's mansion, and forced actor and "Winfrey" guest Rob Lowe to flee his home near Santa Barbara.

"We just left with the kids," the film and TV actor told Winfrey about his family's rushed evacuation Thursday. "We just got everybody out. This thing came on so fast, you just can't believe it."
