'Knight,' 'Indiana' lead Choice film nods

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- "The Dark Knight," "Iron Man" and "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" led the field when People's Choice Award nominees were announced Monday.

The three blockbusters are competing for the prizes for favorite overall movie and favorite action movie.

Fans are invited to vote at pcaVOTE.com and winners of the awards are scheduled to be announced Jan. 7 on CBS during a live broadcast to be presided over by singer-actress Queen Latifah.

The first awards show of 2009, "The 35th annual People's Choice Awards" honors fan favorites in television, movies and music.

Up for favorite family movie are "Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian," "Kung Fu Panda" and "WALL-E," and competing for favorite movie comedy are "27 Dresses," "Get Smart" and "Mamma Mia!"

In the running for favorite movie drama are "21," "Eagle Eye" and "The Secret Life of Bees" and competing for the prize for favorite independent film are "The Duchess," "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day" and "The Secret Life of Bees."

Nominated for favorite cast are the ensembles of the films "The Dark Knight," "Mamma Mia!" and "Sex and the City."

Robert Downey Jr., Harrison Ford and Will Smith are vying for the title of favorite male movie star, while Christian Bale, Brad Pitt and Mark Wahlberg duke it out for favorite leading man and Bale, Downey Jr. and Smith compete for favorite male action star.

The nominees for favorite female movie star are Angelina Jolie, Keira Knightley and

Reese Witherspoon, while Anne Hathaway, Kate Hudson and Queen Latifah will compete for the favorite leading lady gong and Cate Blanchett, Hathaway and Jolie will vie for the favorite female action star honor.
