Prince William secretive about flights

LONDON, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Britain's Prince William did not inform senior Royal Air Force officers of his intentions to take frivolous helicopter flights, documents say.

The Sunday Telegraph said documents released under the Freedom of Information Act indicate the 26-year-old member of the royal family never told his superiors he planned to use military helicopters to attend a party and a wedding.

The documents say senior officers would have canceled the helicopter flights that took place between April 2 and April 11, the Telegraph said.

William also used military helicopters to buzz the home of his father, Prince Charles, and practice landings at the home of his girlfriend, Kate Middleton, the Telegraph said.

William, the second-in-line for the British throne, was serving a four-month RAF rotation as part of his Army service during the period in question.

Senior officers were later criticized for the prince's indiscretions and ordered to take measures to prevent similar incidents, the papers say.

The documents say the five flights cost taxpayers more than $135,000, the Telegraph reported.
