NEW YORK, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- The NBC crime drama "Life" has been picked up for an entire second season, an executive with the U.S. TV network says.

NBC Entertainment Executive Vice President Teri Weinberg said consistent, albeit modest, ratings helped "Life" receive an order for an additional nine episodes this season, The Hollywood Reporter said Friday.

"This unique crime drama continues to offer consistent and compelling stories each week," Weinberg said. "We love 'Life' and are thrilled that we get to see more of these characters and amazing new cases."

The series follows a police detective back on the job after being wrongly convicted of a crime and spending 12 years in prison.

The show began the season on Monday nights before being shifted to Friday nights. But after earning modest ratings in the TV equivalent of no man's land, the series was moved from Friday to Wednesday nights, the Reporter said.
