NEW YORK, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- U.S. TV and movie star Steve Carell could potentially play the lead in "The Beaver," a film about a man with a beaver puppet, industry officials say.

The Hollywood Reporter said Friday "The Office" star's name has been linked to the script from first-time writer Kyle Killen since it was picked up by the Anonymous Content production company.

The is about a man who treats a beaver hand puppet as though it was a real-life being.

The production group has received interest in the script from various studios, but is rumored to be seeking a director for the project before any deals are finalized, the Reporter said.

The industry publication said Carell is currently deciding what movie projects to focus on during his hiatus from his popular NBC series. Among the projects he reportedly is considering are a sequel to his 2008 film "Get Smart," and another comedy, "Brigadier Gerard."
