The Oscar- and Emmy-winning actress is slated to appear early next year in the Tectonic Theatre Project's "33 Variations," which was written and will be directed by Moises Kaufman. This production is to be his Broadway debut as a playwright.

Additional casting, designers, dates and venue will be announced shortly, representatives for the show said.

Tectonic Theater Project is the non-profit theater company behind such plays as "The Laramie Project" and "Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde."

"33 Variations" is about how modern-day musicologist Katherine Brandt (Fonda) investigates the root of Beethoven's obsession with a trivial waltz.

"I am very excited about being in Moises' new play. I can't wait to get back on stage with him in this role that I understand so well. It's been 40-some years," Fonda said in a statement.

Fonda made her Broadway debut in the 1960 play "There Was a Little Girl" and her last Broadway appearance was in the 1963 drama "Strange Interlude."

Her film credits include "Barefoot in the Park," "Klute," "Coming Home," "The China Syndrome," "Nine to Five" and "On Golden Pond."
