LOS ANGELES, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- Former television star Mackenzie Phillips has pleaded guilty to felony cocaine possession in a Los Angeles court.

Phillips, who has battled an addiction to drugs for years, was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport after she allegedly tried to carry what appeared to be heroin and cocaine through airport security.

The daughter of the Mamas and the Papas singer John Phillips has since been charged with two felonies -- alleged possession of heroin and cocaine.

People.com said the one-time "One Day at a Time" actress pleaded guilty to one count of felony cocaine possession and agreed to participate in an 18-month drug deferment program as part of her plea deal. If she completes the program the case against her will be dropped.

"I'd like to take this opportunity to thank (law enforcement) for stopping me, and probably saving my life," Phillips told Judge Keith L. Schwartz Friday.

The 48-year-old actress said she is already undergoing in-patient treatment at a rehab in Louisiana.

"You're making tremendous progress and I'm proud of you," People.com quoted Judge Schwartz as saying to Phillips. "This is a lifelong battle you're in."
