LOS ANGELES, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- A Los Angeles judge has granted a request to make Britney Spears' conservatorship permanent, TMZ reported Tuesday.

The pop singer's father Jamie and attorney Andrew Wallet were granted conservatorship over her affairs after she was hospitalized for psychiatric treatment early this year.

Since her dad has been helping out, Spears' behavior reportedly has been less erratic. She has also released a new album, been spending more time with her two young sons and recently won several MTV Video Music Awards.

The conservatorship was scheduled to end Dec. 31, but Tuesday's decision extended it indefinitely.

Sources told the entertainment news Web site this should make it easier for her to regain custody of her children because the family law commissioner overseeing the case will know she has help caring for them.

The pop singer's ex-husband Kevin Federline has legal and physical custody of the boys, while Spears has visitation rights.

Wallet and Jamie Spears will now also be responsible for handling her business affairs and career opportunities, TMZ said.

The judge hearing the case reportedly was in favor of making the conservatorship permanent rather than constantly extending the temporary power.

The conservatorship may be lifted when Spears is deemed capable of handling her own affairs, TMZ said.
