New simulcasts bring Met to Boston

BOSTON, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- New York's Metropolitan Opera can now be seen at various venues in Boston thanks to a new series of simulcasts, attendees say.

Boston resident Warren Cutler said being able to catch a performance of the internationally renowned opera group through one of the Boston simulcasts has been "fabulous," The Boston Globe reported Sunday.

"It's fabulous," Cutler said. "This has many advantages. No. 1, you don't have to travel to New York. Two, it's incredibly reasonable. Three, the seats are more comfortable than the Met's or any other theater."

Boston resident Drayton Freeman also is a fan of the simulcasts, whose impact on live operas has yet to be determined. But Freeman admitted there really is no substitute for the real thing.

"I've never been, but I'd very much like to actually go to the Met in Manhattan," he told the newspaper.
