MOSCOW, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Operatic baritone Muslim Magomayev has died in Moscow following a prolonged illness at the age of 66, his widow says.
Opera singer Tamara Sinyavskay told ITAR-TASS her internationally known husband died early Saturday.
The Russian news agency said the family had already received condolences from Russian President Dmitry Medevedev.
The Azeri Press Agency in Magomayev's native Azerbaijan said the opera singer had performed with the Azerbaijan State Opera and Ballet Theater during his notable career.
The former Azerbaijan State Bandstand-Symphonic Orchestra director earned international acclaim performing concerts in countries such as Canada, Finland and Iran.
Azerbaijan's Trend News said Sinyavskay wants her husband, who the Azerbaijan news group said died of heart failure, to be buried in Moscow. Additional family survivors were not reported.
