LOS ANGELES, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- U.S. actor Michael Madsen was hospitalized this week on a psychiatric hold after a family member called police due to his alleged erratic behavior, TMZ said.

Madsen, 50, is best known for his roles in the films "Reservoir Dogs," "Donnie Brasco" and "Kill Bill." He is also the brother of "A Prairie Home Companion," "Sideways" and "Creator" star Virginia Madsen.

TMZ said the actor was picked up at his home by Los Angeles Sheriff's deputies Monday afternoon and taken to a hospital.

Madsen's publicist declined to comment on the report, the entertainment news Web site.

He reportedly was also involved in a disturbance inside London's posh Dorchester Hotel last June, but was not arrested.

Police were called after a guest complained he or she heard screaming coming from the star's room. The authorities arrived to find Madsen covered in cuts and bruises and an ambulance was called, media reports said. Police later said no further action would be taken.

Madsen has been married to Deanna Morgan since 1996 and is the father of six children.
