PORT EDWARD, South Africa, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Prince William, second in line to the British throne, and his younger brother Harry began a 1,000-mile charity motorcycle trek in South Africa Saturday.
The two princes said they had bets on with each other and other participants in the Enduro Africa 08 ride on who would be the first to fall off, The Times of London reported.
"We never really knew what to expect but by the sounds of things, the talks we were given last night -- I went to bed shaking and didn't sleep that well," Harry said. "It's not just a bimble (slang for aimless wandering) across the countryside that's for sure. It's going to be very challenging and we're expecting to fall off many a time."
The princes, their friends and security detail and the other riders are to travel in groups of 10, covering 100 miles or more a day on dirt tracks. Going from Port Edward to Port Elizabeth is expected to take eight days.
William said he and his brother are both experienced motorcycle riders but have had no off-road experience.
Money raised by the event is going to Nelson Mandela's children's fund, UNICEF and Sentebale, an organization to help Lesotho orphans.
