NEW YORK, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Katie Holmes says she was "very excited" to make her Broadway debut in New York in the stage drama "All My Sons."

The actress said after her first official Broadway performance this week that working with other stage actors in the play by playwright Arthur Miller was "like Christmas," People magazine reported Friday.

"I was very, very excited," Holmes said of Thursday's performance. "We had my whole family. Tom's whole family. Friends flew in. It's exciting.

"There was definitely a lot more energy. The whole cast, we all got there about an hour and a half (early) and we had gifts for each other and we were running up and down the steps ... . It felt like Christmas."

Holmes told People having her husband, actor Tom Cruise, in the audience Thursday was an added point of support.

"I was so nervous, and I saw him out there, and he made me feel so much better," Holmes said of her celebrity husband. "Every time he's there, I just feel like it's going to be OK."
