Director Oliver Stone's film "W" premieres in New York

WASHINGTON, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said "W," Oliver Stone's new bio-picture about Bush's brother President George W., is "hooey."

The Washington Times said the film portrays the current commander-in-chief as a man desperate to live up to the legacy of his father, former President George H.W. Bush.

"The Oedipal rivalry is high-grade, unadulterated hooey," Jeb Bush told the newspaper.

The former governor added that neither director Stone nor screenwriter Stanley Weiser contacted him to check their facts or get an eyewitness perspective during their research for the movie.

"I didn't receive a call," Jeb Bush told the newspaper.

"No one from the film gave us a call," added Keith Urbahn, spokesman for former Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld. "Donald Rumsfeld has neither the intention nor interest in seeing 'W.' Judging from what I've seen from the trailer, it doesn't seem like veracity and the historical record were high on Stone's priority list."

The Times said it appears the filmmaker based "W" largely on secondary sources like Bob Woodward's "State of Denial" and Stephen Mansfield's "The Faith of George W. Bush" rather than on interviews with the real-life people the film is about.
