Beyonce donates $100K to Ike relief fund

NEW YORK, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Singer Beyonce Knowles has made a personal donation of $100,000 to the Gulf Coast Ike Relief Fund, Music World Music and Columbia Records announced.

The fund benefits victims of Hurricane Ike in the Greater Houston area who have lost homes, property and jobs. It was established at the request of Houston Mayor Bill White to help fill unmet needs of victims primarily in Galveston, Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Harris and Montgomery counties.

The Gulf Coast Ike Relief Fund offers aid to non-profit organizations providing immediate relief in the area, including shelter and temporary housing, food and household supplies, transportation and child care.

Knowles is a Houston native.
