NEW YORK, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- U.S. television personality Barbara Walters said she still wishes Star Jones well, even though Jones has called her and the other women at "The View" "hateful."

Jones was a panelist on the television talk show for nine years until 2006 when she was told her contract wouldn't be renewed for the following season.

In an interview for the November issue of Essence magazine, Jones said her fellow female panelists on the show were "hateful" to her as she was leaving.

Jones, Walters, Joy Behar and Meredith Vieira were original hosts of the show. Vieira left the series shortly before Jones did and Elisabeth Hasselbeck rounded out the all-female cast as Jones departed.

"Star had wonderful years with us on 'The View.' And, I think 'The View' made Star a star," Fox News quoted Walters as saying in response to Jones's quote.

Walters also added that she wishes "her well."
