Stone: 'W' sheds light on Bush's impact

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Director Oliver Stone says his new movie "W" brings attention to the long-term impact of U.S. President George W. Bush's time in office.

Stone said the movie, which stars Josh Brolin as the current head of state, is timely since it focuses on the real-life implications of Bush's political activities, the New York Daily News reported Saturday.

"It's urgent," Stone told the newspaper. "Bush is leaving the stage, but his policies are going to stick around for a long time. The movie makes you think about how he got there, who he is, and where we're going."

Stone, known for other political-oriented works such as "JFK" and "Nixon," also dismissed allegations the movie, which will be released Friday, is a cinematic attack on the current president based on his personal opinions.

"I'm not out to get Bush," he told the Daily News. "Although I have a bum rap for trying to brainwash the audience, I really feel that's nonsense. When you see this movie, I think you understand him better than when you walked in. And that's the key. Whether you like him or dislike him, it doesn't matter."
