Fleet Week parade canceled in San Fran

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- The parade of U.S. Navy ships that traditionally opens San Francisco's Fleet Week was scuttled Saturday because two warships were delayed by heavy seas.

The ships -- the assault carrier Bonhomme Richard and the frigate Pinkney -- dropped out of the sea parade Friday because they could not get beneath the Golden Gate on time.

The ships are expected to enter San Francisco Bay Sunday morning.

The newspaper said the weekend air show by the Navy Blue Angels flying team was to go on as scheduled, as were an air show featuring the Canadian air force's Snowbirds Saturday and Sunday.
