NEW YORK, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Spike TV said Wednesday it has ordered a 2-hour pilot from MGM Television Entertainment for a possible series about Irish gangsters in Boston.

To be directed by writer-director-producer Walter Hill, the original scripted pilot is to go into production this fall with an option to go to series, the network said.

Hill's small-screen credits include "Deadwood" and "Broken Trail."

Chris Bertolini, who wrote "The General's Daughter" and "Battle: Los Angeles," wrote the script.

The original drama has Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White and Tom Lynch and the Tom Lynch Company as executive producers.

"Scheduled to shoot on location in Boston, the story revolves around the explosive fallout that occurs when a Boston mob boss abruptly vacates his position and various rival factions face off in an epic battle to control the streets," Spike TV said in a news release.

Sheila Jaffe, who has worked on "The Sopranos" and "Entourage," is serving as casting director.
