LOS ANGELES, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Misty May-Treanor's tendon injury and withdrawal from "Dancing with the Stars" meant no contestants were eliminated on Tuesday night's program.
Host Tom Bergeron told celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito and his partner Karina Smirnoff that, even though they had the evening's lowest scores and votes, they would not be booted from the dance competition program because May-Treanor had left the show unexpectedly this week, The Chicago Sun-Times said.
May-Treanor, a Beijing Olympic beach volleyball gold medalist, suffered a torn Achilles tendon last week while practicing her "Dancing" moves. She dropped out of the show Monday and reportedly underwent surgery to repair the injury Tuesday.
The athlete's publicist told People magazine the operation was "successful" and "she is currently at home recovering. Her husband, Matt (Treanor) is with her."
Doctors estimate May-Treanor has about nine months of recovery and rehabilitation ahead of her before she can go back to playing volleyball, People said.
