LOS ANGELES, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Helen Mirren, Jeremy Irons, Djimon Hounsou and Russell Brand reportedly have signed on for the big-screen adaptation of William Shakespeare's "The Tempest."

The Hollywood Reporter said Julie Taymor is directing the film version of Shakespeare's supernatural play. Taymor previously adapted a tragedy written by Shakespeare for her film "Titus" and directed last year's movie musical "Across the Universe." She also was the mastermind behind the critically acclaimed stage version of "The Lion King."

In "The Tempest," Mirren will play Prospera, a female version of Shakespeare's duke-turned-sorcerer character Prospero, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.

The cast also includes Alfred Molina, Ben Wishaw and Felicity Jones. Geoffrey Rush is in talks to take on a role, as well.

Taymor is to begin shooting the movie next month in Hawaii, The Hollywood Reporter said.
