NEW YORK, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- U.S. newsman Dan Rather reportedly has requested the chance to amend his $70 million lawsuit against his former employer CBS.

The New York Post said the former "CBS Evening News" anchor wants a judge to let him include a new fraud claim in the breach-of-contract lawsuit he brought against the network, in which he claimed he was made a scapegoat regarding an erroneous report about President George W. Bush's military service.

Rather alleges his departure from CBS cost him the opportunity to make $4 million a year at CNN, the Post said.

"There's nothing new here," CBS attorney Jim Quinn told the newspaper.
