"Get Smart" premieres in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- U.S. actress Anne Hathaway has agreed to play the White Queen in Tim Burton's new big-screen version of "Alice in Wonderland."

Hathaway has joined a cast that includes Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, Mia Wasikowska as Alice and Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Burton will use a combination of live action and performance-capture technology to retell Lewis Carroll's tale about a young girl who finds herself in a magical realm, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.

Burton, Bonham Carter and Depp have previously worked together on "Sweeney Todd," "Corpse Bride" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."

Hathaway has been receiving rave reviews for her performance in "Rachel Getting Married." Her other film credits include "The Princess Diaries," "Ella Enchanted," "Brokeback Mountain," "Becoming Jane" and "Get Smart."
