LOS ANGELES, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- An injury has forced Olympic beach volleyball champion Misty May-Treanor to drop out of "Dancing with the Stars," a fellow competitor told an L.A. radio show.

"It's such a sad situation. She did hurt her Achilles tendon. I don't know if she tore it or ruptured it," Usmagazine.com quoted May-Treanor's fellow competitor on the show, actress Brooke Burke, as stating on 104.3 FM.

"She's out of the competition. Just like that, it's over for her. The sad thing ... this is her jumping mechanism," Burke noted. "We're all really concerned for her. She may be having surgery this week. We don't know yet. It's such a bummer. She heard a pop, so it's really serious."

"Misty May-Treanor sustained an injury on Friday and received immediate medical attention," ABC previously said in a statement issued to Usmagazine.com. "Despite previous reports, she did not break her ankle. ... She is resting comfortably at home. Doctors will reevaluate her condition on Monday and determine the outcome of her participation on the show."

May-Treanor is paired with professional dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy for the seventh edition of the television series.
