Florida woman struggling since 'Makeover'

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla., Oct. 5 (UPI) -- A Florida woman says she is in danger of losing the home created for her charity by the hit ABC TV series "Extreme Makeover."

Sadie Holmes of the Altamonte Springs area said since "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" created a 7,000-square-foot home for her and her charity in 2006, the property has been beset by code violations, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported Sunday.

The infractions included keeping portable restrooms, an oversized truck and abandoned vehicles on the property in violation of planning officials' requirement that no materials be kept in visible sight outside the home.

Those violations ultimately led to a $29,000 county lien being placed on the home. Holmes said she could lose the $400,000 home if she cannot pay the fines.

The home was meant to help Holmes and her charity, which helps underprivileged families and individuals through food and clothing donations.

Holmes says she will appeal the potential foreclosure to the county commission, but she told the Sentinel her focus remains on her charitable pursuits.

''This is not the Taj Mahal. This is a run-down community,'' Holmes told the Sentinel. "The way the economy is now, we're getting three times the amount of calls for help.''
