Report: 'Dancing' winner Helio indicted
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Race car driver and past winner of "Dancing with the Stars" Helio Castroneves was indicted in Miami Thursday for alleged tax evasion, TMZ reported.
Castroneves has been charged with conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government and tax evasion after he allegedly failed to pay taxes on more than $5 million, the entertainment news Web site said.
The indictment claimed he used the "offshore Panamanian shell corporation Seven Promotions to conceal and disguise the true and correct amount of Helio Castroneves' income from the Internal Revenue Service."
The charges are each punishable by a maximum of five years in federal prison, TMZ noted.
The driver's sister and lawyer reportedly were also indicted.
Hasselbeck: I'm not leaving 'The View'
NEW YORK, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Elisabeth Hasselbeck, the lone conservative panelist on "The View," said she isn't leaving the U.S. TV chat show, despite rumors suggesting she is.
People.com said the 31-year-old television personality's representative issued a statement in response to reports Hasselbeck is planning to leave the show because the atmosphere has been tense this election season. The rumors also claim she is taking a job at Fox News Channel.
"While Elisabeth (Hasselbeck) has a great relationship with Fox News, there is absolutely no truth to the rumor that she is leaving 'The View,'" her agent, Babette Perry, said in a statement released to People.com. "Elisabeth is passionate in her beliefs and enjoys being a part of this dynamic group of women and engaging in daily conversations."
Karl Nilsson, executive publicity director for the daytime talk show, added, "Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie, executive producers of 'The View,' consider Elisabeth to be vital to the program."
B'way to salute Newman by dimming lights
NEW YORK, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- New York's Broadway community reportedly will pay its respects to late stage and screen icon Paul Newman by dimming the lights on the Great White Way.
Newman died last week at the age of 83.
He made his Broadway debut in 1953 in the original New York production of "Picnic" and returned numerous times to appear in plays such as "Sweet Bird of Youth," "The Desperate Hours" and "Baby Want a Kiss." His final Broadway performance was in the 2003 revival of "Our Town," for which he earned a Tony Award nomination for his portrayal of the stage manager.
Variety.com said the lights will go out on Broadway at 8 p.m. Friday for 1 minute as a means of saluting Newman and recognizing his artistic contributions.
"For over half a century Paul Newman has graced our stages and inspired our souls with his brilliant talent," Broadway League executive director Charlotte St. Martin told the entertainment industry trade newspaper. "His presence everywhere will be missed."
Advance 'HSM3' tix selling fast in England
LONDON, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- The upcoming movie musical "High School Musical 3" has broken British records for advance ticket sales, Walt Disney Pictures said Friday.
Slated for release in U.K. theaters Oct. 22, the third installment of the popular franchise has sold more than $890,000 in tickets since Wednesday, with some screenings already sold out, the movie studio said.
Odeon Cinemas, the United Kingdom's largest theater chain, puts its total in advance bookings at $435,000. That amount beats "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," the previous record-holder, which took in $402,000 at the same stage of booking and which went on to gross $86 million.
"This is a phenomenal and record-breaking start for 'High School Musical 3,'" Rupert Gavin, chief executive officer of Odeon and UCI Cinema Group, said in a statement. "Our cinemas have been inundated with calls to pre-book tickets for what could be the year's biggest kids and teen audience movie. With schools breaking up for half-term just as 'High School Musical 3' opens, we at Odeon are bracing ourselves for a huge first-week run."
"HSM3" stars Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu and Jemma McKenzie-Brown are expected to attend the film's London premiere Tuesday.
The first two "HSM" films made their debuts on U.S. television. "HSM3" is the first movie in the series to get a theatrical run.
