Broadway stars line up for Obama benefit

"WICKED" THE MUSICAL OPENS ON BROADWAY

EASTON, Pa., Oct. 3 (UPI) -- More than 20 Broadway stars have agreed to appear alongside young amateur performers at a Pennsylvania benefit called "Broadway for Obama," organizers said.

The event is to take place Oct. 20 at Easton's State Theatre Center for the Arts.

Stars from "In the Heights," "Rent," "The Little Mermaid," "Les Miserables," "The Lion King,"

"The Color Purple," "Passing Strange," "South Pacific" and "Wicked" are slated to perform at the event to benefit Sen. Barack Obama's campaign for the U.S. presidency.

Students between the ages of 14 and 21 are encouraged to try out for the show Sunday at PYT, The Banana Factory, in Bethlehem, Pa., representatives for the show said.
