LONDON, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- British rock 'n' roll singer Johnny Rotten said he couldn't resist starring in a commercial for Dairy Crest's Country Life butter because it was made for him.

Rotten, whose real name is John Lydon, is best known as the irreverent front man for the punk band the Sex Pistols.

The Daily Telegraph said his latest gig is starring in a $9 million advertising campaign for butter, marking the first time the 52-year-old performer has appeared in a television commercial.

The 30-second spot shows Lydon wearing a tweed suit in various countryside locations, the newspaper said.

"People know I only do things that I want to or that I believe in and I have to do it my way," Lydon told the Telegraph. "I've never done anything like this before and never thought I would, but this ad was made for me and I couldn't resist the opportunity."
