Palin dad: Fey impersonation 'kinda cute'

NEW YORK, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Chuck Heath, the father of Republican U.S. vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, said Tina Fey's impersonation of Palin was "kinda cute."

Fey -- a former "Saturday Night Live" player and head writer who recently won Emmy Awards for writing and acting on the sit-com "30 Rock" -- made her second appearance as Palin on "SNL" Saturday in a sketch mocking Palin's interview with CBS News anchor Katie Couric.

"I thought it was kinda cute," he father said Monday on "The Early Show" on CBS. "Yeah, Tina Fey did a good job."

During Saturday's show-opening sketch, Amy Poehler, as Couric, asked Fey, as Palin, what it was like to visit the United Nations for the first time last week.

"You know, it was just amazing. So many interesting people. Though I have to say, I was disheartened by how many of them were foreigners," Fey as Palin said. "I promise that when Senator (John) McCain and I are elected, we're gonna get those jobs back in American hands."

The sketch included a response from Fey-Palin that was largely a direct quote of a response Palin gave to Couric last week on the financial markets bailout, with Fey's delivery eliciting laughs from the live audience and getting multiple plays Monday on cable news channels.
