SACREMENTO, Calif., Sept. 27 (UPI) -- California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger eulogized actor-director Paul Newman as "the ultimate cool guy."

Schwarzenegger, a former bodybuilder and actor, noted Newman, who died Friday night at his Connecticut home, had entertained millions of people during his decades-long career, producing some of cinema's most memorable roles.

"Paul Newman was the ultimate cool guy who men wanted to be like and women adored," Schwarzenegger said in a statement released by his office. "He was an American icon, a brilliant actor, a Renaissance man and a generous but modest philanthropist."

Schwarzenegger said he and his wife, Maria Shriver, "send our thoughts and prayers to his wife, Joanne Woodward, his entire family and his many friends."
