Thurman and Lane previously appeared together in the movie musical "The Producers."

Also set to star in the "Muppets" special, airing Dec. 17, are Jane Krakowski from "30 Rock," Jesse L. Martin from "Law & Order," Petra Nemcova from "A Model Life," Paul Williams from "Georgia Rule" and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the network said.

Whoopi Goldberg from "The View," Madison Pettis from "Cory in the House," Richard Griffiths from "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" and former "Sopranos" co-stars Tony Sirico and Steve Schirripa are to appear in the holiday show, as well.

"The Emmy and Grammy-award winning Muppets deliver an all new one-hour special filled with song and dance, mayhem and heaps of holiday high spirits. On Christmas Eve the Muppets mistakenly avert three letters from making their way to Santa Claus in the North Pole -- leaving three Christmas wishes at stake," NBC said in a release. "Kermit rounds up his fearless friends to get to the North Pole before Santa makes his rounds on Christmas Eve and as usual, nothing -- not even Miss Piggy's planned trip to the tropics can stand between the Muppets and a joyful Christmas."
