NEW YORK, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- U.S. comedian David Alan Grier has signed on to star in the character-driven sketch magazine series "Chocolate News," Comedy Central said Wednesday.

Grier, a Shakespearean-trained actor best known for his work on the TV comedies "In Living Color" and "Life with Bonnie," is the creator, executive producer and host of "Chocolate News."

Scheduled to debut Oct. 15 on Comedy Central, the show is "a hilarious take on pop culture events that makes no apologies for its biased approach," the network said in a news release.

"'Chocolate News' will take on a variety of contemporary topics from a decidedly African-American perspective and everyone and everything is fair game. The series stars David Alan Grier who, in addition to serving as the acerbic, all-knowing, in-studio host, will also portray multiple characters within the series' investigative reports, which will be presented by a cast of three correspondents," the network said.
