SPRINGFIELD, Ill., Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Rock icon Bret Michaels was mobbed by scores of fans when he stopped for an eye exam at a Springfield, Ill., LensCrafters this week.
The Springfield (Ill.) State Journal-Register said curious passersby -- and the people they alerted -- gathered at the LensCrafters in White Oaks Plaza when they spotted Michaels' black tour bus with his photo and the logo for his VH1 reality show "Rock of Love with Bret Michaels" on the side. He is currently filming the third season of the series, in which women vie for his affections.
The Poison frontman enthusiastically signed autographs and posed for pictures for more than an hour, the newspaper said.
"I have a little twitch in my one eye because we were playing hockey on 'Rock of Love,' and I took a puck in the eye. There's no way to find true love without a little ice hockey," Michaels told the Journal-Register about why he stopped in Springfield for the eye exam. "We had such a great time when we were here doing (a recent) concert, we figured, what a beautiful place to stop."
Michaels has suffered from diabetes since he was 6 and since eyesight is a common complication of the disease, he gets his eyes checked out when he suspects a problem.
