BEIJING, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Online bloggers say the actress picked to play the lead of the Chinese adaptation of the U.S. TV series "Ugly Betty" is simply too attractive.

The Daily Telegraph reported Friday that since the actress, whose name was not listed, appeared at a news conference for the upcoming series "Ugly Wadi," bloggers have been troubled by her level of attractiveness.

While the Chinese bloggers accused the actress of being too thin for the "Ugly" role, her agent said the series star had put on 20 pounds for the role.

The unidentified agent also said his client had purposefully tanned her skin to avoid having the pale complexion that is prized in China, the Telegraph reported.

The British newspaper said "Ugly Wadi" is the most recent adaptation of the Colombian TV series "Yo soy Betty," which spawned "Betty" in the United States and similar adaptations in Germany, India and Russia.

The Chinese version is to premiere next week.
