Law in talks to play Watson in 'Sherlock'

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- British actor Jude Law is in talks to play Watson in Guy Ritchie's upcoming film "Sherlock Holmes," starring Robert Downey Jr. as the titular sleuth.

Law is best known for his roles in "The Talented Mr. Ripley," "Cold Mountain" and "Alfie."

Variety.com said he is close to making a deal to play Watson, Holmes's sidekick, in Ritchie's film, which is set to begin production in London early next month.
