LOS ANGELES, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- CBS says it has ordered 13 new episodes of the Canadian drama series "Flashpoint" for broadcast on the U.S. network next year.

Starring Enrico Colantoni, High Dillon, Amy Jo Johnson, David Paetkau, Michael Cram, Sergio Di Zio, Ruth Marshall and Mark Taylor, the show "depicts the emotional journey into the tough, risk-filled lives of a group of cops in the Strategic Response Unit," the network said.

The show, which has been renewed for a second season, was inspired by Toronto's Emergency Task Force.

The series was originally developed by CTV, Canada's largest privately owned English-language broadcast network, and Toronto's Pink Sky Entertainment. Pink Sky then joined forces with Avamar Entertainment in association with CBS Paramount Network Television and CTV.

The first season of the series was simulcast on CBS in the United States and on CTV in Canada this summer.
