LOS ANGELES, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Actor Ryan O'Neal and his son Redmond have been arrested for suspicion of narcotics possession, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department says.
O'Neal, 67, is best known for his roles in the movies "Love Story" and "Paper Moon."
Redmond, 23, is O'Neal's son by his former longtime girlfriend, actress Farrah Fawcett.
The father and son were arrested at the actor's home in Malibu Wednesday morning after deputies allegedly found Redmond in possession of what appeared to be methamphetamine. A vial of the suspected drug was also allegedly found in his father's bedroom, sheriff's department spokesman Steve Whitmore told E! News.
Both were charged with felony possession, but neither seemed under the influence of drugs when taken into custody, Whitmore told the entertainment news Web site.
The arrest followed what was supposed to be a routine probation search connected to Redmond's drug arrest earlier this year. The substance will be tested to see if it is, in fact, methamphetamine, Whitmore said.
Redmond pleaded guilty in June to two felony counts of possession of heroin and methamphetamine and one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence. He was sentenced to three years of probation and could face prison time if convicted of violating the terms of his sentence, E! News noted.
Ryan O'Neal's daughter, actress Tatum O'Neal, pleaded guilty in June to misdemeanor disorderly conduct for her own arrest while allegedly trying to buy crack cocaine.
