Takei weds longtime beau in California

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- "Star Trek" icon George Takei has married Brad Altman, his partner of 21 years, in Los Angeles.

The couple announced in May their plans to wed after California's Supreme Court legalized gay marriage under the state's constitution.

"All I can remember is what the priest said; that this moment will never happen again. It's something to savor," Takei, 71, told People magazine Sunday night after the Buddhist ceremony, which was attended by about 200 of the couple's friends and family members.

The reception was on the grounds of the Japanese American National Museum, People.com said.

"I was fighting back the tears," Nichelle Nichols, who played Uhura on "Star Trek," told People. "But they came oozing out anyway. I'm so happy that they're both able to legally proclaim their commitment to one another after spending the past 21 years together."

Nichols served as maid of honor at the wedding and Walter Koenig, who played Chekhov on the popular science-fiction show, was best man.

Takei is famous for playing Sulu on the series.

Lopez, McConaughey finish triathlon

MALIBU, Calif., Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey, co-stars in the 2001 romantic comedy "The Wedding Planner," both competed in a triathlon in California this weekend.

Lopez and McConaughey, who also both became first-time parents with their respective partners this year, finished the Nautica Malibu Triathlon Sunday.

Lopez finished her first triathlon, which was comprised of swimming, biking and running portions, in 2 hours, 23 minutes and 28 seconds, People.com reported. She gave birth to twins in February.

"Thank you guys so much," Usmagazine.com quoted the actress/singer as telling the crowd of people who turned out to support her. "This is an amazing day. I feel really great and so glad I finished and that I made it out of the water but more amazing than that, I feel really great that we raised $127,000 for the Children's Hospital (of Los Angeles) and hopefully it'll go to good use."

McConaughey, who is frequently photographed running and swimming, completed the race in 1 hour, 30 minutes and 44.7 seconds, Usmagazine.com said.

His girlfriend Camila Alves was seen in a VIP area holding their son Levi, who was born in July, while Lopez's husband Marc Anthony reportedly was seen cheering Lopez on from the sidelines.

People.com said McConaughey gave Lopez a big hug when he saw her Sunday.

Britney Spears to release new album

NEW YORK, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- U.S. pop star Britney Spears announced Monday she plans to release "Circus," her sixth studio album, in December.

"Womanizer," her first single off the CD, is to hit radio Sept. 22, Jive/Zomba said in a news release.

The album, which features collaborations with Max Martin, Dr. Luke, Danja, Bloodshy & Avant and Guy Sigsworth, is to drop Dec. 2, Spears's 27th birthday.

Although the singer's career has been overshadowed for some time by her personal troubles and legal battles, she seems poised for a comeback after winning three MTV Video Music Awards last week.

Jennifer Hudson engaged to David Otunga

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Jennifer Hudson's publicist has confirmed the U.S. singer and actress is engaged to her boyfriend of less than a year, reality TV personality David Otunga.

Hudson won an Oscar for her work in the movie musical "Dreamgirls." She also had a supporting role in the summer hit film "Sex and the City" and will soon be seen in "The Secret Life of Bees."

E! Online said Otunga is an ex-attorney and 2006 Harvard Law School graduate who was known as "Punk" on the reality television show "I Love New York 2."

Both Hudson and Otunga are both from Chicago.

"I can confirm that Jennifer got engaged to her boyfriend David on Friday night in Los Angeles," Hudson's representative told People magazine exclusively.

People.com said Otunga proposed by giving Hudson a Neil Lane diamond ring on her 27th birthday.
