'John Adams' tops Creative Arts awards

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards judges voted the HBO miniseries "John Adams" the top winner at their Los Angeles event with eight awards.

The historical drama, nominated in 23 categories, took home awards for best costumes, cinematography, best casting, prosthetic makeup, visual effects, sound mixing, editing and art direction, The Hollywood Reporter said Sunday.

The miniseries featured actor Paul Giamatti as the title character.

Other top winners at Saturday's event included the AMC drama "Mad Men" and NBC sitcom "30 Rock," the Reporter said.

"Men" earned four awards, including best main title design and cinematography for a one-hour series, along with best art direction and hair styling for a single-camera series.

"Rock" won for best casting and sound mixing for a comedy series, while actor Tim Conway was honored for his guest appearance on the sitcom.

The Reporter said the awards program, which was hosted by TV stars Neil Patrick Harris and Sarah Chalke, will be broadcast Sept. 20 on the E! channel.
